ELEVATING RITTER FANS

1. Use only a Kalmar LMV 7.5 (metric tons) forklift (or equivalent) to elevate a work platform equipped with a Ritter fan.

2. Position the work platform and Ritter fan directly over the forklift’s center of gravity.

3. Never allow the combined weight of the platform, Ritter fan, and occupant(s) to exceed 4,000 lb.

4. Make sure the work platform is securely attached to the forks or mast in such a manner as to prevent tipping, slipping, or falling from the supports.

5. Make sure the Ritter fan is securely attached to the platform in such a manner as to prevent tipping, slipping, or falling from the platform.

6. Never elevate the platform beyond 16.5 feet (measured from the base of the forks) above ground surface.

7. Always wear, and wear properly, an approved safety harness with safety lanyard when using the work platform.

8. NEVER TOWER OR TRAVEL WITH A WORKER IN AN ELEVATED PLATFORM other than to make minor adjustments for final positioning of the platform.

9. Operate the forklift and platform only on a surface that is level, smooth, stable and will support the equipment. Make sure there are no hazardous irregularities or accumulation of debris that might cause the moving platform to overturn.

10. Use extreme care when tilting the platform. NEVER TILT THE PLATFORM FORWARD WITH THE FORKS ELEVATED.

11. Only operate a forklift if you are trained, certified and authorized to do so.

12. Make sure to inspect all equipment prior to operation for condition, security, damage, and defects. Make sure all operational controls are in proper functioning condition.

13. Make sure there is an operator in the control position on the lift truck whenever there is a worker on the elevated platform.

14. Never work, or allow others to work, from an elevated work platform when:

a. exposed to extreme weather conditions (thunder storms, high winds, heavy rain, extreme heat/cold etc.)

b. winds exceed 20 miles per hour.

15. NEVER USE ADDITIONAL COUNTERBALANCES ON FORKLIFTS.

16. Never place any part of your body outside the running lines of an industrial truck or between the mast uprights or other parts of the truck where shear or crushing hazards exist.

17. Never stand, pass, or work under the elevated portion of any industrial truck, loaded or empty, unless it is effectively blocked to prevent it from falling.

18. Make sure all personnel are clear when the platform is being raised or lowered.

19. Do not operate an aerial elevating work platform within 10 feet of an energized, high voltage source unless danger from accidental contact with the source has been effectively guarded against. Apply greater clearance distances with greater high voltage, energized sources.

20. NEVER CLIMB OR SIT ON THE EDGE OF THE BASKET/PLATFORM.

21. Always set the brake system when workers are being elevated.

22. Operate all controls slowly for smooth platform movement.
